Professional Learning Overview
Professional learning takes many forms and should be designed to include a range of support. Face-to-face (f2f), one-to-one support to teachers should be used appropriately, but sparingly. Whenever possible, direct consultation should be provided to multiple school staff rather than individuals. Capacity is built by involving more staff who can then apply new skills to more students. It is also very effective if professional learning topics are made available in multiple formats (e.g., downloadable quick guides, videos, online-mini-courses, AT professional learning communities) to ensure just-in-time support. When planning professional learning opportunities, it is essential to know the needs of your audience and plan accordingly.
